Estimated time: 75 minutes - 35 for theory, 40 for gameplay.
Learning goals: Learn how to use reflective practice, one-to-one communication practice, understand SWOT analysis in practice, practice opponent analysis, verbalization of learning.
Prior recommendations: A short explanation of the theory behind reflective practice and SWOT analysis.
Instruction
Divide students into groups of two and have them join the Wingman game mode (2v2) on the map Lake (or teachers choice). The students will play against the same team of other students twice during this session, with pauses for reflection, discussion and strategy.
5 Minutes: Setup the students on the computers and get them into a private game of Wingman.
10 Minutes: Allow the students to explore the map and discuss strategies and ways to approach attacking and defending the objective.
20 minutes: (average): Play one match.
10 minutes: Provide the students with printouts of the map and pens. Get them to discuss their strategy now they have experienced one match and try to create new strategies to counter their opponents. Guide the students on reflective practice and SWOT analysis.
20 minutes (average): Play a second match.
10 minutes: Discuss with both teams what methods they tried to use to improve their play between game one and game two. Were they successful? What would they do differently if a third game was played? What conclusions are they able to draw from the practice session? |
